Is it a good time to install your summer tires in March?

Spring is definitely in the air and we can feel warmer temperatures are upon us. That said, it may still be too early to install your summer tires on your vehicle. We are all looking forward to getting rid of our winter tires and especially our winter wheels, and replacing them with our vehicle’s original wheels and tires. The problem is that summer tires lose their effectiveness when the weather outside is below 7°C.

And as all Canadians know, March is always colder that we want it to be despite the arrival of spring officially. The average temperature in just about every region in the country in March is below 7°. If you drive on summer tires in cold weather, you are prematurely wearing down your tires, but you also will have less stopping power and less stability as the rubber of your tires hardens under 7°. And then there is always that last winter storm that brings the last flurry of snow that covers the roads. Most regions will face at least one snow storm in April once every three years.

It is therefore a very wise decision to hold on to your winter tires for a few more weeks. That said, you can already book your appointment with our tire centre and by doing so, you will get the date that you want to have your summer tires and wheels installed.

If you need new summer tires, we can help you as well. We offer a range of tires including multiple tires that can improve fuel economy! Give us a call today and we can also schedule an alignment and inspection to make sure that winter didn’t impact your vehicle’s geometry.
