2020 Nissan Rogue vs 2020 Hyundai Tucson

We Canadians are a pragmatic bunch of Northerners. We also like getting around this big country of ours and bringing everything with us – the road back to pick up something we forgot can be a long one. With this in mind, it’s no surprise we thoroughly enjoy compact SUVs. This segment is replete with options but not all are created equally. Two of the most popular small SUVs are the 2020 Nissan Rogue and the 2020 Hyundai Tucson.

Versatility and utility are two terms that are thrown around with near reckless abandon when describing these vehicles but despite sharing spots in the same category, the Nissan Rogue and Hyundai Tucson go about delivering total family support with different levels of ease. Although both SUVs can handle five occupants with relative ease, the Hyundai may not as effortlessly handle all associated gear. Without breaking a sweat, the Rogue can swallow up to 1,112 litres of stuff compared to the Tucson’s still decent 877 litres.

With the amount of room afforded by the Nissan Rogue, you’ll never leave something behind. As you head out on the open road, it’s also good to know that your family SUV has your best interests at heart. The Rogue’s standard-for-all-trims engine is a frugal and powerful 2.5-liter 4-cylinder which delivers 170-horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. By contrast, the Tucson’s standard engine is a 2.0-liter that produces 155-horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque. Not only is the Hyundai down on power but it consumes more fuel.

The Rogue silky-smooth and efficient Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) enables the SUV to sip on 9.1L/100 km in the city and 7.1L/100km on the highway. The Hyundai Tucson, and its 6-speed automatic transmission requires, respectively, 10L/100km and 7.9L/100km. With optional AWD fitted to both vehicles, the Rogue is even more impressive needing only 9.6/7.5L/100km compared to the Tucson’s 10.8/9.2L/100km.

Both SUVs are well-equipped from the onset with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a number of other infotainment technologies. Safety-wise, the Rogue includes Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with the base model.

The Nissan Rogue isn’t one of the most popular compact SUVs in Canada by accident. Come in and check it out for yourself.
