The differences between the Nissan Kicks and the Nissan Qashqai

At Nissan, we offer several attractive SUVs. In fact, our lineup is so varied that each vehicle category is covered by a Nissan product. In the sub-compact SUV segment, we even offer two models, the Kicks and the Qashqai.


Each is interesting, needless to say. But which one is right for you? To find out, it's simply a matter of knowing what the differences are between the two. Let's take a closer look.


Interior space


The Qashqai is larger than the Kicks. As a result, it offers a little more room on board, but the difference isn't that big. If it's cargo space that's a priority, you should know that between a Kicks and an all-wheel-drive Qashqai, it's virtually the same; 1503 liters for the Kicks behind the first row of seats, 1509 liters for the Qashqai. Only the two-wheel-drive version of the latter really offers more with 1730 liters.


So if space is a priority, the front-wheel drive Qashqai is the one to go for.


All-wheel drive


Of course, if you absolutely want to enjoy all-wheel drive, your choice will have to be the Qashqai, as four-wheel drive is not available with the Kicks.


The price


Of course, this has an effect on the price. The Kicks, because it's smaller and only available in front-wheel drive, sells for less than the Qashqai. It's up to you to decide what's really important for your daily activities.


Power


Power-wise, it's all the same, even if the powertrains are different. With the Kicks, you get a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine under the hood, which offers 125 horsepower and 115 lb-ft of torque. With the Qashqai, it's a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine up front, this time offering 141 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque.


Because the Kicks are lighter, 0-100 km/h times are virtually identical. In any case, these models aren't there to break records, but to get you to your destination in all circumstances. That's why their reliability is their great strength.


And for those who like the manual transmission, it's still available with the Qashqai. Otherwise, a continuously variable transmission is available throughout.


Fuel economy


Finally, again because it's lighter, and its engine block is smaller, the Kicks is more frugal. On the highway, for example, it averages 6.6 L/100 km. The ratings are 7.3 and 7.6 liters with the Qashqai (2WD and 4WD).


As you can see, the differences between the two vehicles are minimal, but depending on what they are, it could push you towards one or the other. The good news is that there are no bad choices here.
