Nissan stands out in latest J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

The latest J.D. Power Initial Quality Study results are out and Nissan did very well, finishing in the top 10 among all automakers for the initial quality of its vehicles. Moreover, Nissan had significantly better results than Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, and Subaru. 


The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study determines the level of satisfaction of owners after the first three months of ownership. The goal is to determine the initial quality and reliability of every 2022 vehicle on sale by asking owners a series of questions about their first 3 months. This year, over 80,000 consumers were surveyed and asked 223 questions about their new vehicle.


The study determines the number of problems consumers have had and then brings everything back to an average on 100 vehicles. With just 167 problems per 100 vehicles, Nissan did significantly better than its competition. The industry average was 180 problems per 100 vehicles and brands like Honda, Hyundai, and Subaru finished below the industry average.


Nissan also did very well with its vehicles in their respective segments. The Nissan Sentra and Nissan Altima finished in the top 3 in their respective segments, while the Nissan Murano finished ahead of the Chevrolet Blazer and Honda Passport in its segment.
