2021 Nissan Rogue vs 2022 Hyundai Tucson: Better fuel economy awaits in the Rogue

The compact sport utility vehicle segment is one of the most competitive in the automotive industry. It is the most popular in Canada, and there are always numerous new models coming into the segment for consumers to consider. The perfect example would be the new 2021 Nissan Rogue and the all-new 2022 Hyundai Tucson. Both the Rogue and the Tucson have been redesigned recently, and they feature a lot of interior space, fuel-efficient engines, and a lot of tech.

That said, the Nissan Rogue continues to surpass the Tucson in terms of fuel economy as well as the number of impressive technologies that are offered out of the gate. Let's take a closer look at how these two models compete.

A More Efficient Drive in the 2021 Nissan Rogue

The first thing that we notice when comparing the 2021 Nissan Rogue to the 2022 Hyundai Tucson, is that the Rogue remains the most fuel-efficient of the two. And the thing is, it's not  close.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue is powered by a 2.5 L 4-cylinder engine that delivers 181 horsepower along with 181 pound-feet of torque. That's more torque than what you will find in the 2022 Tucson which has 178 pound-feet. That said, on the road, the difference in power isn't really noticeable. What is noticeable is that the Nissan Rogue averages a remarkable fuel consumption rating of 9.2 L per 100km in the city, and 7.2 L per 100km on the highway. Combined, the Rogue, averages 8.3 L per 100km. That is with all-wheel drive while models with front-wheel drive average just 8.1 litres per 100 km.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson averages 9.9 L per 100km in the city, and 8 litres per 100km on the highway. That averages out to 9 litres per 100km which means that the Nissan Rogue has a definite advantage in terms of fuel consumption which translates to a direct advantage in your wallet.

Lastly, the 2021 Nissan Rogue has some technologies that you will not find in the 2022 Tucson,  at least not in the base model. These include the rear cross-traffic alert system, as well as the safe exit system which warns you of an oncoming vehicle as you are exiting the vehicle.
